ComputerXplorers Cotswolds run Big Bugs holiday club

Huge hairy hornets and super big bugs will be the highlight of a ComputerXplorers holiday club being held at Springfield School, Witney, Oxfordshire this half term.
Leading children’s ICT education franchise, ComputerXplorers run classes for children aged 3-13 that are fun and inspirational, and designed to enhance the learning skills of children of different ages and abilities and to give them a great head start in life.
Using digital microscopes to zoom in on flora and fauna, Nicola and Andrew Petty owners of ComputerXplorers Cotswolds, teaches the children aged between 10 and 16 to analyse specimens, perform experiments, reach conclusions and even make works of art, during their ‘Microscopic World’ class.
Springfield specialises in teaching children with learning difficulties and has set up the holiday club after a survey amongst parents identified the need for more out of school services.
The school obtained funding through Oxfordshire County Council’s Aiming High for Disabled Children Programme, which has many other projects underway to make childcare and short breaks services more accessible.
As a result the school appointed Moreton-in-Marsh based ComputerXplorers to run the holiday club and a six week after school club from Tuesday 23rd February.
Said acting deputy head teacher Tim Walker; ‘Children love to use computers and we are very pleased to be working with ComputerXplorers Cotswolds, as part of our out of school services provision. The clubs will extend the children’s ICT opportunities and improve their skills and knowledge as well as providing a fun opportunity for the children to work together out of school.
“I am delighted that pupils from nearby Wood Green and Madely Brook schools will also be joining our club and we look forward to welcoming them to our school.”
This will be the first time that ComputerXplorers has been taught in a school that caters for children with learning disabilities and Nicola and Andrew are looking forward to meeting the children.
Said Nicola; ‘This class is always extremely popular. Everyone loves seeing a hornet magnified up to 200 times and we are really excited about the prospect of working with the children and staff from Springfield and its partner schools. Our ethos is to help each child maximise their own IT potential whilst fostering creativity and confidence and I’m sure we are all going to have great fun.’
ComputerXplorers gives schools and parents the opportunity to provide additional and complementary primary education in ICT. By including ComputerXplorers sessions either as part of the weekly timetable or as an after-school activity, schools can significantly boost children’s skills levels.
The classes are held in nurseries, pre-school settings, primary schools, after school clubs and summer camps and range in length from one day workshops to six week courses.
Younger children can develop their confidence and build their academic readiness skills in core areas such as literacy, maths, science, music and art. Older children can improve their computer and software skills, and learn some exciting new computer-based subjects. Classes cover subjects such as Crime Scene Investigation, rocketeering and robotics all of which combine computer skills with the fun factor.
ComputerXplorers provide all the equipment, materials and top quality instructors so there is nothing for schools and pre schools to do other than provide the room and the children.
