DVD rental technology launches in Threshers
Movie rental technology is ever changing, and a recent launch of a DVD rental kiosk in Threshers, Oswestry gives further support to the speculated spread of this technology across off-licences in the UK and Ireland in 2008.
Following on from recent kiosk launches in Belfast and Arklow, The Movie Booth has so far had a positive reception since its launch of DVD rental kiosks into the UK and Irish market in April. Through launching a kiosk in the Threshers group, The Movie Booth hope to secure access to the one of the UK’s leading off-licence brands should the kiosk in Oswestry prove successful.
The futuristic concept has been launched in Oswestry by Deborah Harris, who noticed the gap in the DVD rental in Oswestry when the local traditional DVD rental store closed down.
Miss Harris commented, “I see many people going to supermarkets to buy DVD’s that they will only watch once or twice, and they are expensive. Oswestry’s DVD store closed down several months ago and there was nowhere to rent a DVD in town. With money being a squeeze at the moment, it’s now a fact that people are spending more time at home with their friends and family. Now locals have the opportunity to grab a DVD and a bottle on their way home, call up a couple of friends and enjoy a chilled night in”.
The growth in DVD vending kiosks across the UK and Ireland comes as the one year anniversary of the smoking ban has contributed to a downturn in pub and bar trade in the UK and more people opting for a night in as opposed to a night out. The Movie Booth has further forthcoming installations in Cardiff and Liverpool in the coming weeks and expects monthly installations to increase by 100% by the end of 2008.
