Police attend a Crime Scene Investigation….at Carmyle Primary School!

In late November last year, PC Steven Docherty from Shettleston Community Policing Team gave a helping hand to a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) class run by ComputerXplorers at Carmyle Primary School in Glasgow.
The six week course, held every Wednesday for an hour after school, has been a roaring success amongst Year 6 and Year 7 pupils at the school. The children learn how to examine finger-prints and hair samples, use digital microscopes and work the field scene, and on Wednesday 25 November they will be working on digital photography analysis and tyre imprint identification. The final class takes place on 2 December and pupils will have the opportunity to use everything they have learnt to solve a crime!
Owner of ComputerXplorers in South West Scotland, John McGill said: “I am delighted that PC Docherty came to our Crime Scene Investigation class. It added a realistic dimension to the session and the pupils really enjoyed asking questions.”
ComputerXplorers is a new concept in ICT classes for children aged 3-13 in Scotland. They help children to master technological skills at an early age and increase their e-confidence and competence, giving students a great head start to their education. In the classes children learn exciting new subjects, such as rocketeering, alternative energy, film-making, robotics, Crime Scene Investigation and clay animation, and at the same time improve their everyday academic and computer skills. The classes are held in nurseries, pre-school settings, schools, after school clubs and holiday clubs.
Linda Logue, Head of the School said: “This class has been very popular and after consultation with parents, we hope to be running another in January. The children are very motivated and actively engaged in every session, learning ICT and Problem Solving skills without realising it. This will have a positive impact on many other areas of the curriculum.”
John McGill, who is based in East Kilbride, set up ComputerXplorers South West Scotland in September this year.
