Insurance fraudsters are costing honest insurance customers over £1.6bn a year and Spettro are working with insurers to act against fraudulent claims with the latest technology.

It seems that the economic gloom is changing the UK’s attitude to insurance fraud, with a 27% increase in the number of people who see submitting a fraudulent claim as acceptable. A survey by insurance group RSA found that 4.7 million Brits have no problem with submitting a false claim - an increase of one million compared to March 2008.

Spettro’s franchisees, covering 30 yellow-page size territories across the UK including Northern Ireland, have been trained in the use of FLIR thermography cameras in an effort to reduce the number of fraudulent claims by accurately assessing damage caused by water leaks. Of course, this technology also helps the home owner by targeting the cause of damage, removing the need for numerous test holes in the floor, walls or ceiling of the property and ultimately completing repairs much more quickly.

Kevin England, one of the directors at Spettro, explains why homeowners should think twice before making a fraudulent claim, “Insurers still consider this a serious offence and if you are convicted of insurance fraud you will not only find it difficult to get buildings and home insurance in the future but also any other financial services products and support.”
