With three new signings currently on training, Signs Express shows it has many reasons to celebrate its 20th anniversary despite the situation of our failing economy. The new centre owners are set to start trading in the coming months, meaning not only a positive sign for the UK and Ireland’s largest signage company but also for the franchising industry as a whole.
The thought of starting in business could be considered by some as risky, especially at a time when the news is littered with staff cutbacks and loss of earnings. However, by spending previous years being diligent and undertaking constant planning for all future eventualities, the Signs Express business model is continuing to provide a stable package for both new and established centres.
The three new franchisees come from all different walks of life. Mark Meadowcroft has taken his own business onwards and upwards dealing both in the print industry and signage materials sector. Mark will be taking on an existing franchise which has been trading for over 10 years after he was attracted by its success and future potential. He was looking for a new approach and saw franchising as providing the stability required to take on a new challenge in a volatile economy.
Phil Harris has also bought into the Signs Express business model and will be taking over an established franchise when the existing franchisee moves overseas. Phil was previously part of a family business manufacturing springs. He was specifically looking for a business opportunity in the manufacturing sector and had never considered the franchise route. He was pointed in the Signs Express direction by a business broker who introduced him to the resale opportunity which seemed to exactly suit his needs and location. When he saw that all the figures added up, the franchise support was an added bonus.
Finally, Pat Ginty, the newest franchisee to join the network, will be establishing his new business in Mullingar, Ireland. Having worked as a data network manager for
T-Mobile, Pat wanted a new challenge and saw franchising as a way to move to a different direction. He had been particularly interested in the signage industry and had researched other franchises, however, the support package and the approach of the Signs Express team was just what he was looking for. Pat’s new production centre will bring the number of Irish franchisees to 6 with further franchisees expected during 2009.
Sales and marketing director Tony Marsh commented on the new signings: “The new franchisees coming on-board have given us a positive start to a year that all businesses are concerned about. Times are in no doubt tougher than they have been for years but the new signings show that the franchise model is still an aspect of business that is going strong.”
Tony continued: “Having been in operation for 20 years, we have experienced many fluctuations in the economy which have left us well prepared for different scenarios. The idea of becoming a franchisee with us is that you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself - a concept which gives our franchisees all the training and ongoing support required to become a successful operation in their own right.”
Signs Express will be exhibiting at the British & International Franchise Exhibition on stand E100 taking place at the Olympia on 20th-21st March.
