As part of a planned expansion in 2008, Kumon UK has opened new offices in Leeds and Birmingham, with the aim of trying to give more children across the UK and Ireland the opportunity to improve their maths and English skills. At present over 50,000 children across the UK and Ireland are realising their potential with Kumon. However, Kumon’s mission is to make Kumon available to as many children as possible, whilst maintaining and enhancing the quality of the Kumon experience.
“2008 is a hugely significant year for Kumon, as we celebrate 50 years of working with students around the world in the pursuit of their potential,” explains David Cowan of Kumon UK. “It is our long-term commitment to make Kumon study available in every community across the UK & Ireland so that every child can benefit, and we see this as an important step along the way.”
Kumon treats each child as an individual, and the pace and progression of study is placed in each student’s hands. Students are given the chance to get to grips with calculation skills and mental arithmetic without using calculators, and can improve their spelling and grammar. Each child also acquires self-learning skills and the important commodity of confidence.
Kumon utilises its unique method to complement what a child does at school, helping them to become more numerate and literate. Rather than being taught, children study independently, motivated and guided to achieve their potential by Kumon Instructors.
