Rhythm Time, one of the UK’s most successful music providers for under 5’s, is promoting the importance of nursery rhymes in its toddler and pre-school classes. The idea was instigated by Kathy Doolan, founder and owner of the music franchise group. Kathy’s passion is to introduce music to parents and children in a fun way whilst at the same time helping them to learn all the basic musical elements.
“The benefits of music, rhythm and rhyme are of paramount importance when it comes to a young child’s development,” says Kathy who is a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and was previously Head of Music at a Scottish school. “So in addition to our normal songs and activities, the teachers at Rhythm Time in Solihull are currently including additional nursery rhymes in their sessions that parents may have forgotten” she adds.
“Rhymes, rhythmic activities and singing can help children develop in so many ways. Confidence, creativity and co-ordination (the three c’s) are developed through our music classes for toddlers. For example, their listening and concentration skills can be improved; hand eye co-ordination and motor skills are strengthened by using our varied instruments; and their language and vocal chords are developed by singing simple songs and rhymes” says Kathy.
“When they move into the music classes for pre-school, the activities are designed to improve their communication skills, language, literacy, mathematical skills and creative development. These are just some of the benefits of using music, rhythm and rhyme for young children”.
Research also shows that babies need to have all their senses stimulated. Rhythm Time’s music classes for babies aim to stimulate vision, listening and sense of touch by using songs, percussion instruments and a wide range of sensory activities with specially chosen music for babies.
Kathy has created a set of unique music courses especially written for the different age groups: babies, toddlers and pre-school. Children throughout the music franchise group progress through the different age appropriate classes making a seamless transition at their key developmental stages.
