Success Story - Border Global Travel Franchise

Member Since: April 2006
Proprietor: Roy Weatherup
Manageress: Kath Lightbody

Established in April 2006, Border Global Travel has recently celebrated their first year anniversary!

Being a subpostmaster, Roy Weatherup saw the opportunity of integrating a travel agency, within his existing businesses and chose The Global Travel Group as it was the most cost effective option – providing both security and full back office support.

Roy then sought a manager to run his business in the Jedburgh branch of his post office and head hunted Kath Lightbody, who had worked in the industry for 22 years in ABTA based agencies. “I was delighted that Roy approached me, especially as it meant managing an agency my home town.” explains Kath.

Border Global Travel sell a variety of holidays from flight only to tailor-made and already benefitfrom 90% of repeat business, so Kath is thrilled “I was definitely wary at first, but the footfall has been amazing, considering the town has a population of 4500 I have already surpassed my quarter million target!”

Kath attributes many factors to its success.“We did have the advantage of my experience in travelwith industry contacts and the automatic footfall of the post office, but being a member of the Group has given us more time to focus on selling. There is no hassle with administration and I have confidence in displaying and selling holidays knowing that our clients’ money is safe with the Global protection scheme.”

With a fantastic first year to show for her efforts we asked Kath what advice she would give to new members.“First of all, people have to work their business and offer a true service. Keep up to date with the industry, offers and what’s next. But ultimately it is crucial to have realistic expectations, so you can reach and even surpass set goals.”
