Cornish leisure company Treasure Trails Ltd has taken on a local franchisee team to manage the Cornwall area as the business expands into national and international fields.
In the past two years demand for the innovative Treasure Trails’ product has meant that the company now has operations in 24 counties all over the UK. Regional franchisees are recruited to write and sell the permanent themed Trails and there are now nearly 400 in total.

The business was founded in 2005 by local man Steve Ridd and the national head office is still based in Cornwall. The company’s aim is to get people out and about, exploring the county in a fun and interesting way on a Treasure Hunt, Murder Mystery and Spy Mission themed walk. Answers to clues are located on existing monuments and buildings and thousands of people are becoming hooked on this unusual and innovative idea. Gary Lineker is just one of the growing host of fans, having had lots of fun with his fiancée Danielle on a Treasure Trail around Armagh last year.
Steve says, ‘I started Treasure Trails because I wanted to create a way for locals and tourists to learn about and enjoy the many beautiful and fascinating places in Cornwall. As the business has grown, I have resisted letting go of the management of my home county because it is such a special place. But I know now that we have found the right people to manage Cornwall who will love the area and Trails like I have.’
Two new local managers will now run the Cornwall business so that the head office team in Truro can develop the organisation nationally.
Rob Jefferies and Ruth Tod from St Ives are the new Cornwall managers and said, ‘We both love being outside in the fresh air and have really enjoyed all the Treasure Trails we have done with our families. When the opportunity arose to run the business in Cornwall we jumped at the chance and now can’t wait to write some more Trails around this stunning county to help more people explore is hidden gems.’
