Mike Clarke was one of the first 3 franchisees to embark on the Envos project.
Mike lives in Devon with his wife Katherine and 2 children aged 12 and 17. After 20 years as a large scale pig farmer, raising approximately 25,000 pigs a year, he decided to venture in property development.
“About 4 years ago I started property development as our farming environment was changing,” says Mike. “I have spent the last 4 years developing and renovating property and I currently have a lovely converted barn on my books. Due to the property market stagnating, I knew I needed to look again at new career options.”
Mike decided to look at the Envos franchise after seeing it as a legislation driven new market opportunity. An initial influx of business will come from commercial property owners needing to obtain an Energy Performance Certificate that lasts for 10 years. In addition to this all public buildings over 1000sq 1m are required to display an energy certificate which gives an operational rating based on energy usage of the building, updated on an annual basis.
“As well as ensuring commercial property owners stay legal, we will be helping them to save money on their energy bills by recommending ways to become more energy efficient when we revisit them each year,” explains Mike.
Mike’s South West region will cover the whole of Devon and Somerset initially until further franchisees come onboard.
“I am currently training to be an assessor so that I can undertake some of the surveying myself. I approached some freelance agents and they currently undertake the surveying on my behalf. This ensured I was up and running quickly,” says Mike.
Mike is running the franchise himself while his wife, Katherine works as a lecturer. “Katherine is fully supportive of this franchise opportunity. We know that this business has huge short term gains while commercial properties come up to speed with the legislation changes. In the long term, being part of the Envos brand will ensure that I am able to pitch to larger organisations that wouldn’t have considered me as a small independent business. I definitely see Envos providing a valuable mix of support, skills, connections and brand clout so that I can build a profitable business.”
When Mike isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with the family and is a keen Modern Jive dancer. “I like to go to Jive classes once or twice a week. I really enjoy it and it’s a good form of exercise.”
The appeal of Envos is that it is a professional organisation acquiring a good national identity. This gives the individual more credibility when approaching larger organisations.
With projected net profits amounting to £450k by Year 2, Envos is looking for individuals with high aspirations to succeed while building a sustainable franchise within a proven business model.
Individuals with a background in property, good people skills and management experience are best suited to this franchise opportunity. Additional experience in sales and marketing is also beneficial.
Those choosing an Envos Regional Franchise will become part of the Envos family, working collectively to clearly defined goals with the support and assistance of a first class franchise package.
