Rat-race. What a word. It makes me cringe every time I catch sight of it. Not only because of its real meaning, which involves bucket-loads of stress, but also a natural association with the smelly rodents.
Truth is, unfortunately a high percentage of us Brits are part of the rat-race, which means there are a lot of unhappy bunnies out there…
I know all too well what life in a daily treadmill position can be like. In fact every time I think of those numb-minded days commuting on smelly trains to a dull and airless office in the City of London, I shiver relentlessly and count my lucky stars that I managed to escape.
Looking back, I kick myself at not doing something about it sooner. In truth I was sick of living like a zombie, waking up every morning at 6.30am and not getting home until 7pm only to repeat it all for four more days until the weekend arrived. Those sacred two days off sped by so quickly that just as I had caught up on my sleep, it was back to the routine again. What a life! I was tired, the weather was grey and I had no time to spend with loved ones. I was living on the hamster wheel of life – totally void of anything fun or exciting. If you are currently one of these ‘zombies’ then I completely understand what you are going through. I emphasise with you entirely. But there is a way out…
One sorry day as I sat on a homebound train, with rain pounding against the windows, feeling dog tired, I saw the light and made a decision. The best decision of my life in fact. I decided to move to sunny Spain.
I didn’t know what I would do when I got there, or how I would earn a living, but all that was secondary. I believed that everything would fit into place when I arrived. And thankfully, I was right!
Six weeks into moving to the Costa del Sol fate threw an interesting opportunity my way and I had the chance to re-launch a magazine aimed at the English-speaking expats living in the local area. I snapped up the chance like anyone naturally would if given such an opportunity. I called this magazine The Sentinella.
Soon the first issue was complete. I felt an amazing sense of achievement, especially when readers began calling and emailing me, praising me for bringing them such a riveting read. I made more than 1,500 Euros on my first ever issue.
In subsequent months the profits increased as the pagination increased and within two years I was making an unbelievable amount – much more than my monthly pay cheque in the UK.
Wow! This was better than I ever could have hoped for. Now I know the formula to success, I want to share it with others, who would also like to live their dream life.

Four years later there are now five separate editions of The Sentinella magazine distributed across seven different regions of Spain. ‘The little mag that fits in your bag’ is the most popular of its kind in southern Spain and it is a reputable brand name, which is expanding rapidly.
Now I’m not suggesting you up sticks and leave your home country, but at the very least you can start to enjoy life a little more. You owe yourself that at least, right?
