Elephant Shrew in Kenyan Rainforest Found

What an amazing little creature the Elephant Shrew is.  Just recently discovered in the Kenyan Rainforests by a team of research scientists, it is apparently closely related to the Elephant more so than to a normal Shrew.  Weighing in at 600 grams and being 2 foot long, it is quite large but of course no where near as big as it's relative the Elephant, in fact, it's amazing that a creature of this size can be related to an Elephant at all!

What a cute lil fellah... :-)

Apparently this area of the world has not been very well documented at all - due to security concerns and an infestation of sleeping sickness, a parasite transmitted by the tsetse fly, not many people have ventured into this part of the rainforest.  I imagine there will be lots more discoveries to come yet.

Kind regards,
