About 6 weeks ago we got ourselves some lovely little pets called Dugus. We had never heard of them before and oh boy they are just lovely. It has taken a little while for us both to get acquainted but sitting here in my office just now I have 2 lovely Degus behind me busy as can be building their home. I am giving them scraps of an old tshirts of mine, fed thorugh the bars of their cage and they are busy scurrying about collecting them and running over to their lil box home to create a nest. So sweet :-)
I think they might have been bored for a while. I came back from the pet shop with a tunnel, hanging things, a ladder, a swing and some other bits n bobs and although they love me rearranging them they have been gnawing at the bars for the past week more than usual. As such I have been letting them out a lot. As I am working anyway and in a confined office space, I am quite happy for them to run about, all be it pooping all over my desk and at times running across my keyboard! However having just made them a hammock from my tshirt and a rope to climb on, i also chucked in a few scraps left over and was amazed at how quickly they dragged them to their wee box home to make their wee nesty even more comfy. Now i have bits of tshirts everywhere and they are pulling them through at a great rate.
Gotta think of more ideas to keep them occupied. Any thoughts?
OK toilet paper seems to have really made them very happy indeed. I'm sticking lengths around 2 foot in and they are merrily dragging them through the bars, to their nest of course. I have a feeling they are going to spend half the night tearing up toilet roll, tshirts and cardboard to make it as homely as possible. One thing i am thinking though is, maybe their next box is too small? It's about 10 inches wide, deep and tall, a kinda wooden box with a large opening. If they like making homes so much then it's ony going to occupying them for so long. I'm thinking 2 foot long and same height and depth, this way they have space to build tunnels etc if thats what they wanna do.

OK IDEA! I just stuck an entire roll of toilet paper, still on the roll in there. This is gonna be fun i'm sure ;-)
Right they are going MENTAL for it. Woohoo, happy degus! This should keep em busy all night. Wonder how to occupy them tomorrow? I know, MORE toilet roll!
WTF??? They managed to take an entire full sized roll of bog tissue into their house! OMGzors.
